NEEDED! - WORKERS FOR GOD

During the American Civil War, General Stonewall Jackson found himself on one side of a river when he needed to be on the other side. After telling his engineers to plan and build a bridge so his army could cross, he called his wagon master in to tell him that it was urgent the wagon train cross the river as soon as possible. The wagon master started gathering all the logs, rocks and fence rails he could find and build a bridge. Long before day light General Jackson was told by his wagon master all the wagons and artillery had crossed the river. General Jackson asked what where his engineers doing? The wagon master’s only reply was that they were in their tent drawing up plans for a bridge.

Scripture is full of examples of people who were not afraid to go to work and depend upon God to get the work done. No planning, no committees, no ground work, no big send off, just working by faith. They had no church buildings with an attached family center. They did not have a fund raising campaign, but depended upon God for what was needed to do the work.

David’s encounter with Goliath is one such example. God could not use Saul because Saul would not be used. He was too busy drawing up plans in his tent. God could not use the Israelite army because they were frozen in fear. They believed the problem was greater than they were.

God is still developing Davids. We will not defeat the world with the world’s weapons. All the planning and scheming and academic exercises will not have the effect of one David. One man, willing to fight God’s battles with the tools God provides, is what we need. Will you be that man or women for God? Are you allowing God to work through you? Will you believe, like David did, that the giants are so large you cannot miss?

Ezra is another model for us. He was known for his knowledge, his observance of God’s Law, and his teaching of the Law. He was a man who practiced what he taught and he taught after searching God’s Word. Let us act like him in searching God’s Word and then teaching others.

The apostles were not rich, powerful, educated men. Most were just common everyday guys. Yet, they turned the world up side down. Why can’t we turn the world up side down? Is it because we are refusing to let God use us? Let us follow the example of the apostles and allow God to do a great work through us.

David faced one giant. Today the assembly faces many giants. Humanism, evolution, materialism, immorality, worldliness, and complacency all stand across the valley and mock the army of God. Just as God provided David, Ezra and the apostles when needed, He will develop and provide men for today’s battle. Are you one of those God is providing for today? God judges your heart, not your abilities. Those who are willing will fight the battle, not years from now but today.

The church is battered and buffeted. The battle lines are drawn. If we will not fight God’s battle than He will find some one else to do battle.

A light that will not shine,
a spring that does not flow,
a baby that does not grow,
is no more abnormal than a
Christian who does not live for Christ.

If we allow God’s power to work in us, God will do more than all we ask or imagine! Let us allow God to work through us with His immeasurable power to His glory in the assembly and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever! Amen!

Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then HE WILL RENDER TO EVERYONE ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS.
