Metamorphosis is the scientific name for the change of an ungainly, crawling caterpillar into a delicate, flying butterfly. The word is from a Greek word meaning "transformed." Metamorphosis occurs not only in butterflies but also in thousands of insect and amphibian species. Christians are also transformed (metamorphosed) when they go to heaven.
This transformation is even more spectacular then that of butterflies. It will happen when we are resurrected from the dead to be with Christ in heaven. When a person becomes a Christian, a follower of Christ, that person will show a change in his life style here on earth, and then the complete transformation will happen in the future when Jesus comes to claim His own.
Some who call themselves Christian and expect to go to heaven will not get there. This is very sad and they are to be greatly pitied for they are like the caterpillars who have parasites or diseases and die before becoming a butterfly. Your answer to "Who is Jesus?" determines if you will go to heaven and be transformed.
but one who disobeys the Son won't see life,
but the wrath of God remains on him." John 3:36
The Bible gives us a hint of what will happen when we are transformed.
So also is the resurrection of the dead.
Now I say this, brothers, that flesh and blood can't inherit the Kingdom of God; neither does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery. We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. But when this corruptible will have put on incorruption, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then what is written will happen:
"Death is swallowed up in victory."
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:50-57
Christian who have died with Christ will be united with Him in a resurrection like His. Therefore, just as I now bear the image of Adam, then I will bear the image of Jesus in heaven. He will change my lowly body to be like His glorious body, by the power He has to subject all things to Himself. (See Romans 6:5; 1 Corinthians 15:49 and Philippians 3:21.)
