GROWTH GOALS FOR THE ASSEMBLY
Some assembly programs are good, while others are of little value, and some are not God's method of doing business in His assembly. James 1:27 states a two part program for true program goals for the assembly.
Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. James 1:27 WEB
To visit widows and orphans means to help those unable to help or protect themselves. But before we can be of help to them, we ourselves must be right with God. Being unspotted from the world comes before helping others. Therefore, we must first be made holy and righteous in God's sight, then He will use us in great ways to make an impact upon our area.
1. Goal One - To Be Mighty In the Spirit:
- Learn and apply God's basic goals for success.
- Overcome bitterness, greed, and immorality in our lives.
- Tear down Satan's strongholds in our lives.
- Become energy-givers not energy-takers.
- Discipline. Learn and apply God's methods of discipline.
- Finances. Learn and apply God's methods of financing His work.
- Develop Christian character qualities in the membership.
2. Goal Two - To Help Others:
Below is a list of suggestions to help others. We must ask God for wisdom and an open door to guide us to the work He wants us to start with. True assembly growth occurs when the members help the people of their locality. And the best way to help is to help those who are in authority. Assemblies who focus on helping others are growing assemblies and nothing can stop them.
Orphans and Abused Children: Work with the authorities in helping prevent child abuse and also help those who have been physically, sexually, and emotionally abused.
Widows: Ninety percent of widows lose their inheritance within one year. Work with the widows and police in preventing scams.
Marriage Problems: Work with the divorce courts and lawyers to prevent divorce by rebuilding marriages.
Drugs. Work to deliver people from drug addition rather than jailing them.
Sodomy: Work to deliver those caught up in the homosexual life style and who desire to be released.
Abortion: Help those women who have guilt feelings for what they have done. Help those who are thinking of aborting their child to find alternatives.
Financial Freedom: Help those in financial bondage to gain freedom. Work with the courts in debt cases.
Education: Work with the school drop outs to return them to school. Help Christian families to home educate their children.
Unemployed: To help them return to the work force. Supply career guidance and reeducation incentives.
Health Education: Guide and teach good health practices.
Don't be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.
